The 2-day RYA Powerboat Level 2 course runs at our training centre at Rudders Boatyard, an approved RYA powerboat training centre with direct access to the tidal waters of Milford Haven. This course is ideal for complete beginners looking to get started in powerboating, as well as those who want to build on existing skills and progress to more advanced courses.

The course is primarily practical, with the majority of the training taking place on the water. Students spend most of their time developing real boat-handling skills such as manoeuvring, coming alongside, high and low speed handling, and safety procedures. Only a small portion of the course takes place in the training room, where a few key topics such as basic navigation and chart work are covered before being applied on the water.

Our main training boat is a 6.2m Ribeye RIB powered by a 2025 Tohatsu 115hp outboard engine. The side-by-side seating layout allows your instructor to teach clearly and effectively while keeping the rest of the participants close enough to observe and learn from the demonstrations. The boat is fitted with modern onboard systems, giving you experience with the latest boating technology.

Our second training vessel is a 5.3m Humber Destroyer, a professional-grade sea-going RIB fitted with a 2026 Tohatsu 115hp outboard engine. It is fully Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) coded and equipped with all the required safety equipment for professional training on the water.

We have plenty of free parking available, although it is generally a very safe area with full CCTV coverage, parking is at your own risk.

Your practical course starts around 1000 hours and finishes each day around 1630 hours. Please aim to arrive 10 to 15 minutes before the course starts

YOU WILL NEED TO BRING:

• Waterproofs
• Bottle of water
• Warm clothes (including base layers)
• Gloves & Hat
• Sea boots/wellies, or waterproof footwear
• Any medication you will/may require
• Passport photograph (for the certification process)
